Ingredients
  

Lasagna Sheets

  • 12 sheets Barilla lasagna sheets oven-ready

Meat Sauce

  • 500 grams ground beef or turkey
  • 800 grams canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 handful fresh basil chopped
  • 1 cup water or beef broth
  • salt and pepper to taste

Cheese Mixture

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg egg beaten
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant.
  • Add ground beef or turkey and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water or broth, fresh basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20–30 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, beaten egg, and ¼ cup parmesan cheese.
  • Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Layer lasagna sheets, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and sauce. Repeat layers.
  • Finish with a final layer of sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  • Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, then cover loosely with foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  • Let lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, replace meat with sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, or spinach.
